Action for which recommended :-
|
|
During the action NORTH of NATHKOKYIN on 8th May 1944, Captain
ANDERSON as Commander of a Recce Platoon was present with a small
detachment. Towards the end of the battle Captain ANDERSON was sent
to co-ordinate the action of two infantry platoons which were
attempting an encirclement by the right. This he did with admirable
judgement and coolness and complete disregard for his personal
safety. As a result of the decisions Captain ANDERSON took as senior
officer on the spot in the face of heavy enemy M.G. fire, the
forming up of the enemy counter attack was delayed, giving the
remainder of the force time to reorganise to meet it. Eventually
Captain ANDERSON led a composite party against enemy positions and,
although by this time twice wounded, cut his way back to the double
column safe harbour.
