Action for which recommended :-
|
|
On April 13th I was ordered as part of 77 Bde, to send a force of
four platoons to endeavour to enter and if possible mop up the
Japenese held village of MAWLU (SC8430) from the West.Major Hall
was appointed by me as the Company Commander of the three infantry
platoons of a small mixed force under my Command.
The village of MINTHA and MAGYIKON were occupied without opposition
but in ONDOX (just West of MAWLU) strong enemy opposition was
encountered.
Major Hall was at the head of his company at the time and gave a
splendid example of leadership and resolution.
At the commencement of our initial attack I personally saw him seize
a Bren Gun and (with his orderly) go straight for an enemy fox hole
position. Both he and his Orderly killed a Japanese apiece at point
blank range, and I considered his personal action and unhesitating
bravery were largely responsible for ejecting the enemy from ONDOK
which my force succeeded in holding for the remainder of the day
until ordered by Comd 77 Bde to withdraw to THAYAUNG where a Brigade
concentration was being made in the evening.
