Action for which recommended :-
|
|
For gallantry and devotion to duty in attempting to bring in two
wounded men under heavy fire.
At MLA on 9 July 1944 Sgt ABDULLAI BANANA's platoon was ordered to
withdraw after a determined though unsuccessful attack on a strong
enemy posn. Before withdrawing Sgt Abdullai Banana saw two men of
his platoon wounded and unable to move, close to the enemy wire. He
went forward on his own and brought back one of the men. He then
returned and brought back the other man. Unfortunately both the
wounded men were killed by enemy fire on the way back.Sgt.
Abdullai Banana showed a complete disregard for his own safety, and
this act of gallantry was a fine example to his men.
