Action for which recommended :-
|
|
When manning the perimeter defences at White City on the night 7/8
April 1944, he threw a grenade at hostile movement on the right
flank of his weapon pit. The grenade struck a tree stump and
rebounded into the pit. He immediately felt for the grenade with his
foot, found it and pressed it into the floor of the pit. He kept his
foot upon the grenade until it exploded, when he sustained shock.
Owing to his courage, coolness and presence of mind, not one of the
five other occupants of the pit was injured. |
