Action for which recommended :-

|
Sgt. CROPPER was Platoon Sergeant of a Platoon which on the nights
6/7 April and 7/8 April withstood very heavy attacks from at least
two companies of Japanese. During the second night the platoon was
under very heavy fire from Mortar, Artillery and heavy machine gun
fire and small arm fire.
Sgt. CROPPER showed complete disregard for his personal safety,
moved from Section post to Section post organising the fire and
relieving wounded men. At one stage the platoon was reduced to
twenty five men holding a fifty men position.
On the morning of 8th April a party of Japanese had established
themselves in dug in positions 30 yards from our wire. Sgt. CROPPER
with four men, the only ones unwounded, led a bayonet charge against
the enemy and himself killing the officer and three men, the
remainder fled in rout and disorder.
Sgt. CROPPER set a magnificent example to his men and by his
leadership helped to save the situation at a critical time.Signed
