On 12 March 44, parties of 17 and 71 Columns ambushed (illegible) NABA-MAWLU at (illegible) 602. Cpl FOX, acting as platoon sergeant,
was with two sections repeatedly attacked by the enemy. He was
temporarily knocked out by a bullet wound in the calf. He regained
consciousness and took a Bren gun from other wounded gunners. He
carried the gun forward alone and by throwing grenades and firing
the Bren gun he successfully covered the withdrawal of the two
sections, inflicting casualties on the enemy. |
