Operations in Burma, February - Mayl, 1943On 12th March,
1943, at the crossing of the River Irrawaddy, the enemy opened fire
with mortars and caused considerable confusion among the mules. On
his own initiative and regardless of danger, he collected some
twenty-five mules with their valuable loads and brought them out of
the danger to the river crossing area. On all occasions Private
GUEST showed the best qualities of the British soldier; he took on
every type of task willingly and with resource; he was always
cheerful and energetic under difficult and trying conditions; and in
two separate engagements he took a prominent part, using a Thompson
sub-machine gun with good effect.
