Action for which recommended :-

On the 17th March 44 at HENU before the Block had been consolidated,
an enemy platoon infiltrated through the jungle into our positions.
The Platoon of which Private HIGGINS was a member was ordered to
attack them. While advancing up a hill into the attack the Section
in which this man belonged was engaged by an enemy LMG causing five
casualties to his Section including the Section Commander. Private
HIGGINS immediately took command of the Section leaving two men with
the wounded and taking the others forward into the assault. Another
party of men withdrew from this position but Private HIGGINS told
his men to hold on and then attack, which he did, inflicting a
number of casualties on the enemy. He remained on this position
until ordered to leave. This man showed courageous and determined
example to his Section and was an inspiration to his Platoon
