L/Nk. LAL BAHADUR GHARTI was 2 i/c of the leading section of the
leading pl on the advance on point 2771 overlooking TAUNGNI, on July
9th 44. On first coming under fire he advanced up to the nearest
enemy trench occupied it himself and hurled grenades at neighbouring
enemy trenches, clearing them. Whilst there he was exposed to
continuous (M.G.) fire and was painfully wounded in the shoulder. He
remained at his post until certain that the rest of the section had
consolidated around it, and had to be ordered back for medical
attention.I recommend him for the award of MM
