Action for which recommended :-
|
|
On 11th June 1944, sergeant LOWTON was a Section Commander in one of
the Platoons who were attacking the Court House area near MOGAUNG.
The country was very thick and the weather very hot and moist. The
enemy were difficult to locate and Sergeant LOWTON realising this
crawled forward and located an enemy dug in position opposite his
Section. He placed his Section in position to cover the enemy post
and went to find his Platoon Commander. He discovered that, unknown
to the remainder of the Platoon, the Platoon Commander was wounded
and unconscious, and the Platoon Sergeant was incapacitated with
heat stroke. Sergeant LOWTON then took command of the whole Platoon
without further reference and planned a successful attack which he
led on to the dug-in position he had located.
Later, he located
another post and staged a Platoon attack against that, overcoming
that too. Sergeant LOWTON displayed leadership, courage and
determination and willingness to accept full responsibility without
demur and I recommend he be awarded the Military Medal.Dated 14th
