L/C McLellan was a member of a two section patrol which, on 10 Jun
1944 was ordered to carry out an offensive patrol in the valley East
of the KYSANLAI PASS. After a brisk engagement with a superior force
of enemy, in which the patrol leader was wounded and other
casualties caused in our own small force, L/C McLellan with one
other man was set the task of arranging the evac of 3 of our
casualties, of these, one was blinded and another helpless from a
severe leg wound. With complete disregard for his own safety, L/C
McLellan got a LMG into action against the enemy follow up and
himself carried and dragged the wounded to a temporary place of
safety.
L/C McLellan kept this up for a period of 5 hours in difficult
and water-logged country until further assistance was forthcoming
and his 3 casualties were carried behind our own lines. L/C
McLellan's great courage and determination was a source of
inspiration to all ranks, and his action without doubt saved 3 men
from falling into enemy hands.
