Action for which recommended :-
|
|
On 11th June 1944, during the attack on PIN HMI bridge near MOGAUNG,
this NCO was in the leading platoon of 'A' Company on the right of
the road. Intensive enemy fire from a well concealed bunker pinned
his Section to the ground. Havildar PAHALSING THAPA, taking
grenades, a Sten gun and a pistol immediately started to crawl
forward through marsh and thick jungle for fifteen yards, he reached
the bunker. He killed the Japanese officer in charge of the bunker
and the remaining enemy fled. It was in great part due to this NCO's
courage that the Company attack, temporarily halted by this
position, proceeded to the final capture of this vital objective
