Action for which recommended :-
|
|
On 17 Apr 44 CPL ROSS was a member of an ambush party in the area of
TATLWIN. After the ambush had been successfully sprung, the force
dispersed owing to heavy mortar fire. As a result of the dispersal a
number of men and animals became detached.
The Officer in charge of the party became delirious with malaria.
CPL ROSS therefore took command.
During the subsequent two days CPL ROSS displayed conduct and
leadership of a very high order. In spite of the fact that the enemy
were in strength in the area he was tireless in his efforts to
retrieve both men and animals, and showed a complete disregard for
his own safety. He twice returned to the scene of the ambush, which
was then occupied by the enemy. On both occasions he came under
fire.
On 20 Apr 44 his party was again dispersed by the enemy. He reformed
them under continuous fire. He eventually returned to the Column,
having collected all the missing men, and animals but one. |
