On 6th May 1944, at MAWKU Pass, Havildar SHIB JANG GURUNG while in command of a section fighting patrol advanced against 40 of the enemy, occupying MAWKU village. He, with his section, obtained complete surprise, and approached to within 50 yards of the enemy position, where he personally killed or wounded 7 of the enemy. He successfully withdrew his section, under heavy mortar, and machine gun fire, thereby setting a fine example of courage and initiative to his platoon. |
