Lance-Naik Tula Ram Gurung M.M.

For personal courage in action. Whist leading his Section into action together with one British Officer (Lieut ROOKE) they charged the enemy. His Sten gun jammed and he killed one Japanese by throttling him with the useless gun. Later, Lieut ROOKE, having been wounded and rendered unconscious by an enemy grenade, L/Naik TULA RAM repelled an enemy counterattack and killed two more Japanese by battering them with his Sten, thereby in all probability saving the life of his officer. The enemy then fled and Lance Naik was then able to evacuate the wounded successfully.
