Rank and Name

Sgt Geoffrey Douglas BARLEY

Action for which recommended -

From MARCH to JULY 1944 Sgt BARLEY was in charge of the signals section of 46 column.

During the campaign he had several attacks of malaria, but in spite of this, and no matter how tired he was at the end of a day's march, his first object was always to 'get through' on the wireless. This frequently entailed working well into the night, but Sgt BARLEY thought of his own personal comfort last, his duty always first.

For conspicuous devotion to duty Sgt BARLEY is recommended to be awarded the British Empire Medal.
