Action for which recommended -

Subedar YEM BAHADUR KHATTRI was Coy subedar but took comd of a platoon at his own request.

On July 9th when A coy was trying to get through to the rest of the Brigade at TAUNGNI area YEM BAHADUR was in comd of the leading platoon which met an enemy platoon on the track. The Subbedar although met by very heavy fire got his platoon quickly into position himself well to the fore with kukri and organised the bombers. By his coolness he beat off an enemy charge and completely routed them. On the same day, after proceeding along the track the Subedar with the leading section further enemy were met. Without hesitation Subedar YEM BAHADUR ordered kukris and charged through the jungle, again putting the enemy to rout.

The following day, his platoon still leading, encountered the enemy in strength in a most difficult  position. He organised and led an attack which completely took the enemy by surprise allowing the remainder of the force to reach safety. He then withdrew his pl with skill.

On July 15th '44 whilst once more endeavouring to break through to the brigade the leading pl met strong opposition. First one pl and then a second were put into the attack. Whilst the Coy Comd was forward organising the attack the enemy reached the track behind the coy thus endangering the whole force. Subedar YEM BAHADUR with the rear pl promptly realised the situation and organised a counter attack which he led personally & cleared the track & so saved his coy at a most critical moment.

For his constant cheerfulness and courage and his fearless leadership I recommedn this Subedar for the award of the I.O.M.
